You should tell us as soon as possible if your New Zealand passport was lost, stolen, damaged, or involved in a data breach or scam.

You should apply for a new passport. You can declare your passport as lost, stolen, or damaged in your application. Your old passport will be cancelled as part of the process:
If you do not need to replace your passport
You should declare your passport lost, stolen, or damaged to prevent identity theft and illegal use. Your passport will be cancelled and an alert added to your record. A new passport will not be issued until you apply for it.
If your lost or stolen passport is still valid, you must report the incident to the police. You must include the police report reference number in your declaration.

Passports involved in a data breach or scam
If your passport has been involved in a data breach or scam, we can add an alert to your record. This ensures extra security checks are carried out if your passport details are used in a passport, citizenship, or RealMe Verified Identity application.
