Apply for an emergency travel document – payment methods

This section will help you work out how much your emergency travel document will cost and will explain how to apply for a full replacement passport at no additional charge.

Contact your nearest New Zealand Embassy, High Commission or Consulate office to find out the cost of application.
  • Write down the amount you need to pay in section 8 of the application.
  • Write down the currency you are paying in.

How to pay

Your application fee must be paid in the currency of the country where your application is being processed.

Credit cards

  • Credit card payments cannot be processed by New Zealand Embassies or High Commissions – however it may be possible to have your credit card payment processed in New Zealand. Contact the Passport office in New Zealand to request a credit card payment over the phone.

Apply for a replacement passport at no additional charge

The fee for your emergency travel document covers the cost of a full replacement passport, provided you apply before your emergency travel document expires. 

To receive your replacement passport, complete either:

  • an application for a New Zealand adult passport form, OR
  • an application for a New Zealand child passport form.

If your emergency travel document has already expired, you must pay the full application fee when applying for a replacement passport.
